Growing, Cooking, Sharing and Preserving your Heritage
A “Cookbooks As History” Program
Saturday, March 3, 2018 -- Riverwood Clubhouse, 114 Marilyn Drive -- Covington, LA
Cookbooks are an important documentation of a nation's heritage. They are a collector's item, a family's memoir and a way to maintain our sense of identity. The passing on of recipes from generation to generation, whether published in a cookbook or not, has long been a cherished tradition generously shared with families and friends.
For people of every ethnicity, food is more than fuel for the body--it provides an invisible thread that ties families and communities together with the continuity of shared experience. And for those entrusted with the responsibility of keeping that priceless cultural thread intact, family recipes embody tradition, bridge generation gaps, and erase age differences.
The West St. Tammany Town & Country Garden Club recognizes the importance of sharing and passing on traditions through our food, just as we recognize the importance of growing a garden and passing on that knowledge to future generations. The “Garden to Table” theme allows us the opportunity to explore and discuss the significance of Cookbooks as purveyors of a region’s history and culture.
The program will begin at 10 a.m for 2 sessions with an hour lunch break then 2 sessions in the afternoon and ending at 3 p.m. The "Taste of Louisiana" luncheon will provide a sampling of family dishes prepared by Garden Club members.
The symposium is free and open to the public, but seating is limited, so please contact us to reserve your space. If you would like to attend, you may send us a message on the Contact page. You also can send us a message on our Facebook page or call: (985)590-4416 or email us at [email protected].
