TOWN AND COUNTRY GARDEN CLUB MINUTES - MARCH 11, 2015
The Town and Country Garden Club met at the home of Rita Dearing , co-hosting were Betsy Maxwell, Marilyn Gesser and Anne Fontenot. In the abscence of Dianne Ramirez, Marilyn Gesser introduced our speaker, Patricia Sander of the New Orleans Orchid Society. She spoke on growing Orchids and had on hand various examples of blooming plants.
The business part of the meeting was called to order by President, Julie David who began with a prayer. The recitation of the Collect and Pledges followed. Roll was called and minutes read. They were accepted as corrected. Rita Dearing reported $3593.70 in the treasury. Bobby Abel sent cards to Gayle Lonibus and Fran Allen.
The various committee heads gave their reports. Dates and activities occurring in March and April were discussed. Election of officers will be held at the April meeting.
The meeting was closed with a few good jokes by Julie David.

Wally gave a talk and showed slides on every thing you need to know about Hibiscus. It was an excellent presentation. We were invited to attend the Hibiscus Flower Show on May 24, 2015
After a break, Julie David called the members to order. We recited the Pledges and Collect.
The host, Wendy Scaccia and co-hostesses, Dianne Bellis and Dianne Ramirez were thanked for their delicious refreshments. Diane Moreau called the roll and read the minutes. They were accepted as read.
Rita Dearing reported there is $3,855.70 (Three- Thousand Eight Hundred and fifty- five dollars and seventy Cents.) in the treasury.
OLD BUSINESS:
A Memorial Camellia plant for Anna Ribbeck at The Otis House in Fairview State Park is to be planted soon. The Park will let us know when the site is ready.
A Memorial Tree for Betsy Jenkins planned at Christ Episciple Church is in the plannings stage. Whenever the site is known, we will be notified.
NEW BUSINESS:
Deborah Nolan said, There is a need for volunteers to help with landscaping for the new "Habitat For Humanity Homes."
Julie David introduced and welcomed RoseAnne Brodie and Melania Jackson as new members. Dianne Ramirez presented them with their name tags.
Sue McGuire reported on Fran Allen. She has had additional surgery and doing well.
The following announcements of upcoming events were given.
Northshore Master Gardeners Spring show will be on March 20 and March 21 at the Covington Fairground with Dan Gill speaking.
Covington Garden Club invites us to their Luncheon, Style Show and Silent Auction on March 13.
Art In Bloom will be held March 18 - 22 at NOMA in City Park. Susan Copping, Jeannie Wilke, Julie David and Milly Vappie have been allotted a budget of $100.00.
Lastly, next month will be our Plant exchange.

The Garden Club met at the new, beautiful Madisonville Library. Co-hostesses were Marie Bishop and Debbie Noland.
The meeting was called to order by Vice -President Elect, Ann Perkins. The meeting began with reciting of the collect, and the pledges.
The roll was called, minutes read and accepted as corrected. It was noted that the membership roll stands at 33 members. Guests, RoseAnne Brodie has attended 3 meetings and Melania Jackson 2 meetings. The executive board will meet for final approval. ( Article 1, Section 3)
Rita Dearing reported the treasury holds $3,465.70, Three Thousand four hundred and sixty-five dollars and seventy cents.
Various committee reports were presented.
Bobbie Abel sent needed cards and requested names of anyone in need of a card.
Mary Jenks, noted Arbor Day in Louisiana is the third Friday in January. The rest of the country celebrates it in April. St.Tammany has the largest number of 4 H clubs. Lastly, LSU Ag Center with have a seminor "Spring Into Gardening" featuring Dan Gill, Will Afton, and Dr. Christine Coker.
Loredana Chapman gave us her experience with Zenias and Milk Weed. Milk Weed is the host plant for butterflies. Our area is a stopping off place for there butterflies.
Ann Perkins went over these notes Julie David sent over to be covered. A Thank note was received from LGCF VI, Gail Lonibus. A Landscape Workshop costing $60.00 will be held January 26, 27 & 28. Master Gardeners workshop will be held February 2 at Covington Baptist Church. Northshore Garden show will be held March 20 and 21 at Covington Fairgrounds. Also noted was picture of club members in newspaper.

After refreshments, We gathered to hear our speaker. Dianne Ramirez introduced Betty Miley of Maypop Nursery in Norwood, La. She educated us on Sustainable Practices. These are to protect the environment, to make effective use of the landscape and to enjoy outdoor activities. We enjoyed her slides and talk that gave colorful examples of sustainable practices. Her nursery carries many native plants, wildflowers and trees for Natural Gardening. Many agreed a road trip was in order.

TOWN AND COUNTRY GARDEN CLUB MINUTES - SEPTEMBER 10, 2014
The September meeting was held at the home of Eileen Gremillion with co-hostesses Gloria Coker and Robin Bruns assisting.
Dianne Ramirez introduced our speaker, Tucker Bantom of Perino's nursery. He presented an informative presentation on Container Gardening. He showcast four containers each filled with a Thriller, Spiller, Filler planting in a decorative way. He discussed soil, fertilizing and insecticides and answered all our questions. He was thanked with a gift certificate to Acme Oyster House.
The business part of the meeting was called to order by President Julie David. The 2014-2015 Year Book wers delivered. Millie Vappie was thanked for all her hard work on the yearbook. All checked for any corrections or omissions and additions were made.
Gloria Coker shared pictures of the many different butterflies visiting her Zennia garden. As a tribute to Anna Ribbeck and inspired by the beauty and serenity of this awesome sight, she wrote a Poem which she shared with us. Many requested a copy of the beautiful poem.
Ann Perkins led us in the collect and pledges.
Roll was called, minutes read and accepted as corrected.
Treasurer, Rita Dearing reported we have $2745.45 in the treasury. The budget was presented and discussed. It was noted that we over spent our budget by $200.00. At present with $2745.45 in Treasury, this is not an issue. But over tine it could be. This lead to a discussion on the benefits of belonging to the Louisiana Federation of Garden Clubs. Further discussion was tabled until October.
Corresponding Secretary, Bobbie Abel sent 4 cards over the summer, to Anna Ribbeck, Millie Vappie, Fran Allen and Cheryl Brown.
Hospitality Chairman, Eileen Gremillion said we should be thinking about the December Christmas Party. A discussion followed. A vote was held on whether to have a Christmas Party as a luncheon in a home or out in a restaurant. The majority voted to have our Christmas Party as a luncheon out in a restaurant. Guest would be limited to honorees and persons interested in becoming members. Venues will be presented at october meeting.
Milly Vappie of year book committee presented further corrections and omission to the yearbook.
Dianne Ramirez presented the month by month slate of speakers for 2014-2015. She was given a round of applause for a job well done.
Ways and Means Chairperson, Ann Fontenot reminded all of the October Garage Sale. She gave us a long list of items that sell. We are to bring items to meeting on Weds, Oct. 8. Sign Up sheet for volunteers was passed around for day of sale, October 11, Saturday
A motion was made to plant a tree or shrub in memory of Anna Ribbeck. It passed that a tree or shrub will be donated to Otis House in memory of Anna Ribbeck.
Louisiana Garden Club Federation invited us to participate in meeting and luncheon Oct.30 at Nottoway Plantation. Flyers with pertinent information was passed around to those interested.

Town & Country Garden Club Minutes - June 11, 2014
-The Town and Country Garden Club met at the home of Ann Perkins on June 11, 2014. Co-hostesses were Peggy Imm and Cheryl Brown. Members provided us with a delicious Pot Luck Brunch.
-The meeting was called to order with a meditation by Julie David. The pledges and collect were recited.
-The roll was called, minutes were read and accepted as read.
-Treasurer, Rita Dearing, reported $2571.74 in treasury.
-The officers and committee chairpersons were called on to give their reports.
-Historian, Marilyn Gesser, asked where the past minutes were. Diane Moreau, Sec has those she doesn't have. A motion was made that a copy of the minutes from now on be kept on the web site. A motion was made, seconded and carried.
-Ann Fontenot suggested we put the password to the web site in the Yearbook. After a discussion, a motion was made by Eileen Gremillion, " Add the password to the web site in the Year Book but not on the same page as the Web site is listed." the motion was seconded by Peggy Imm. The motion so passed.
-Dianne Bellas of the Mini Grant Committee Committee reported on the Executive boards discussion of postponing the awarding of our usual Grant of $500.00 to every other year. That way we could accumulate more money. A motion was made, "We will skip a year and let the money accumulate and change the amount of the grant to $1000.00 to be awarded bi-annually." The motion was seconded and carried.
-The Old Business of absentism moved into New Business.
-Julie David introduced the question of absentism and reported on thoughts brought forth at the Executive Board Meeting. A lengthy discussion followed. A motion was made by Deborah Nolan. " A Member in good standing must notify The Recording Secretary or The President when they will be absent. Starting September, 2014, a member will be notified by letter after missing two meetings. If they miss the third meeting, a letter will be sent advising them of the Terms laid out in the Constitution and By Laws of the club." The motion was seconded by Peggy Imm and unanimously carried. A committee to draw up the letter will consist of Corresponding Secretary Bobbie Abel and Eileen Gremillion.
-Dianne Bellas of the Mini Grant Committee reported on the Executive Committee discussion of postponing the awarding of yearly Grant to every other year. Applications were down. That way, we could offer more money. A motion was made : "We will skip a year and change the amount of Grant to $1000.00 to be awarded bi-annually". The motion was seconded and carried.
-Dianne Bellas led a discussion on having a sharing table at each meeting. A sharing table consists of gardening items, magazines, plants or seeds that a member has and can't use themselves. A motion was made by Eileen Gremillion. "We will have a Sharing Table at each meeting." It was seconded by Bobbie Abel. The motion carried.
-Also, A Question and Answer period was suggested. A discussion followed. Deborah Nolan made a motion, "A Question and Answer Period, to be manned by the Horticulture Committee will be held at each meeting. Two questions will be answered during a 10 minute period. Questions are to be given to Horticulture Committee in time for research." The motion was 2nd by Eileen Gremillion. The motion carried.
-Health report on Anna Ribbeck and others was shared.
-Meeting closed with a few good jokes and a prayer by Julie David.
